Review of 2010

This letter was sent to core donors and describes well what Luciente has done this past year.

From all of us at Luciente, we write to you, our core donors, in appreciation of your contribution of time and money. We have received donations of over $30,000 for our current beneficiaries which include: Abiquiu studio tour, Abiquiu computers, Cerro Pedernal Heritage Association, El Rito Studio Tour and La Puerta School for Art, Science an Agriculture.

 It is important to us at Luciente to increase our fiscal strength so we can survive these times and be there for our region by having the capital to support new ideas and open doors for all of us.

 Erin Manzanarez of La Puerta School for Art, Science an Agriculture writes:

Luciente, Inc. opened a door that allowed La Puerta, the organization, to be established within our community. The Board's enthusiasm of our mission and vision helped to launch La Puerta from an idea to reality. We thank Luciente, Inc. for their support through fiscal sponsorship and 501(c)3 application grant, for that support was crucial in getting La Puerta up and running on its own. Partnering with Luciente, Inc. also provided our school with many great contacts within our community - many who have now worked with the school in some capacity.

The ideas that have driven the school are precisely in line with Luciente's core mission and goals. This was an easy project for our board to be excited about and we are proud of La Puerta's presence here.

Luciente's mission for this region, which includes Medanales, Coyote, El Rito and in-between is to promote economic development, open educational opportunities, support of the Arts and any new ideas that fall within these concepts. To learn more about organizations which receive support from Luciente or to make a donation visit our website at www.luciente.org

Luciente is in a unique positions in the community to receive tax-deductible donations and judiciously apply them to local organizations or projects. However, this past year we were unable to assist several worthwhile local groups because of lack of direct donations to Luciente.

Donations made directly to Luciente enable us to continue to operate and offer fiscal sponsorship and managerial support to theses organizations that may not have the time or resources to complete these endeavors themselves. Contributing to Luciente allows members of the community to approach Luciente for financial and administrative assistance for new projects, scholarships and networking.

Luciente has laid a powerful foundation for all of us: to house and help execute new ideas for our community. We wish to create create awareness and involvement within the community. If you feel strongly about supporting the work we do for the region and its people, please consider sharing this information with your friends and neighbors.

Luciente is the fiscal sponsor of the local studio Tours. Through this it provides them with the possibility to receive tax deductible donations and event insurance. Luciente sends the letter acknowledging the donations. Luciente receives 10% of the donation amount to defray the costs for these services.

Luciente is a fiscal sponsor for Abiquiu Computers, a freecycle program for computers and other related electronic parts. The computer is cleaned up and then give it away to someone in the community.    Since this program was started in 2009 it has returned over 90  computers to the community.  If you need a computer and your needs are basic, let Luciente know and we will forward your name to Abiquiu Computers.

Luciente closed its store the end of 2009. It still has display cases and lighting equipment in storage. A new gallery, the 'Rising Moon', plans to open Spring of 2011. Luciente is selling these items at low cost to help with the start up.

The Board of Luciente revised the Bylaws last year, paying special attention to a clearly formulated purpose statement:

The specific objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be: to serve the residents of the communities that are along the State Highway 84 Corridor from Rio Chama northwest to Ghost Ranch, west along Highway 96 to Gallina and along Highway 554 to El Rito through the following in support of Arts, Education and Economic Development:

  • providing fiscal sponsorship to qualified organizations;
  • raising money either through direct donations or an increase of public awareness about the organization;
  • seeking grant money to support and foster programs or their development.

In order to facilitate these objectives, the organization is open to the presentation of specific needs in the communities.
